Frequently Asked Questions

Rock sliders are heavy-duty underbody armor that bolts to the frame rails of your 4x4 to protect the rocker panels and body mounts from rocks, stumps, and off-camber trail contact. Unlike running boards or nerf bars, they are engineered to take hits and spread impact loads across the chassis. On a serious off-road build, they are structural protection, not a step.

Running boards and nerf bars are cosmetic side steps. They mount to thin sheet metal and bend or tear off the first time they hit a rock. Rock sliders are frame-mounted protection engineered to absorb impact and protect your rocker panels. If you actually wheel your rig, you want sliders, not running boards.

Bolt-on. Every RSG slider uses the factory frame mounting points and supplied hardware. No welding, no cutting, no drilling into the frame. Hand tools, a jack or lift, and an afternoon are all you need.

A DIY install on a 4Runner or GX460 runs about three to five hours with two people on jack stands or a lift, using hand tools. If you prefer to have them installed by the shop that built them, our Lakewood install bay handles it in the same window during a single appointment. Book at 720-519-3300.

Yes. Our 6th gen 4Runner rock sliders are available for pre-order. Lead times are listed on the product page. Early pre-order customers receive some of the first production runs off the Lakewood shop floor.

A single slider weighs roughly 60 pounds. A pair (what you receive with one order) adds about 120 pounds to the vehicle. Factor this into your suspension tuning if you are already stacking bumpers, skids, or armor.

RSG covers manufacturer defects including broken welds and failing hardware shipped with the product. The warranty does not cover normal wear, rust, scratches, powder coat finish damage, accident damage, or products used for racing or competition. Full terms on our Terms and Conditions page.
