Real reviews from the Toyota and Lexus owners we build for.
“They did great work repairing the rear locker on my 4runner. It was a complex issue and they went above and beyond. I would definitely trust RSG with future work.”
“I have every intent on having them perform my re-gearing and installation of front/rear air lockers in the near future. RSG has been the most down-to-earth knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating shop I've encountered.”
“You won't find a better Toyota/offroad shop on the Front Range. Big ups to Andy and the whole team at RSG for getting my 2004 4Runner a much-needed 150k mileage overhaul on its suspension while also doing an excellent job taking care of a few other things.”
Frequently Asked Questions
An air locker is a differential that physically locks the two wheels on an axle to spin together when activated. ARB's design uses compressed air to engage a clutch ring. Off, you have an open or limited-slip diff. On, both wheels spin equally, perfect for rocks, slow climbs, and any time one tire lifts.
A rear locker handles 80% or more of off-road situations. Adding a front locker unlocks the rest: tight technical terrain, off-camber climbs, hill-descent control with both axles working. Most builders start rear and add front later.
Locker, carrier, bearings, compressor, air manifold, lines, fittings, switch panel, and wiring. We set up the diff with proper preload and pattern. Pattern verification photos available on request.
Yes, when installed correctly. ARB has a 30-plus year track record. The most common ARB issues are install errors (poor air-line routing, miswired solenoids), not the lockers themselves. We've installed enough of these to know every common mistake and avoid them.
Single locker (rear): one shop day for install, plus a half day for compressor and panel. Front + rear with twin compressor: 2-3 shop days.
Possibly, if you have a press, dial indicators, the right backlash specs, and patience. The locker itself is straightforward. The diff setup is not. Most DIY ARB installs we see in the bay later have backlash issues or pattern issues. Bring it in if you are not 100% confident.
