Built, Not Bought! Inside the RSG Way of Colorado Off-Road Builds

RSG Offroad - Where Craftsmanship Meets Colorado Grit

There’s something special about a rig that tells a story. Not the kind you drive off a dealership lot, but the kind that’s been earned. At RSG Offroad, “Built, Not Bought” isn’t just a slogan, it’s a mindset.

From our shop floor in Colorado, we’ve built a reputation for trail-ready fabrication, purpose-driven design, and honest craftsmanship. Every truck, SUV, and overland build that rolls out our doors has been engineered to conquer Colorado’s rugged terrain while looking every bit as sharp on the street.

What “Built, Not Bought” Really Means

In today’s world of pre-packaged lifts and online bolt-on kits, it’s easy to confuse modification with mastery. At RSG, we do things differently.

1. Every Build Has a Purpose

Before we turn a single wrench, we sit down with every customer to talk about their goals:

  • Are you building a weekend crawler or an overland explorer?

  • Do you spend more time in the high country or the desert?

  • Is this your daily driver, family rig, or expedition vehicle?

That purpose drives every decision from tire size to suspension geometry to armor selection.

2. Function Comes Before Flash

Looks matter, but capability comes first. Our team designs systems that perform when things get sketchy when traction fades, temperatures drop, and daylight disappears halfway up Imogene Pass.

Every RSG build is trail-tested and proven in Colorado conditions. Because if it doesn’t hold up here, it won’t hold up anywhere.

3. Fabrication Is in Our DNA

Unlike big-box retailers that move imported parts, RSG curates our own armor, sliders, and skid plates for use right here in the Rockies. Once we get the parts, we inspect every cut, weld, and bend before it gets shipped to your door.

When we say “Made in the USA,” we mean it, freakin' laser-cut steel, TIG-welded seams, powder-coated finishes. Every part meets the same standard we’d put on our own rigs.

Inside an RSG Custom Off-Road Build

Each RSG build is a system—engineered for strength, balance, and performance. Whether you’re starting with a 5th Gen 4Runner, Lexus GX460, Tacoma, or Tundra, here’s what a full RSG transformation might include:

RSG Rock Sliders

Rock Sliders

RSG Sliders are our signature product—hand-built from DOM tubing, precisely notched for each frame.

  • Protect your rocker panels from trail rash

  • Serve as high-lift points or step access

  • Finished in black powder coat for a factory-plus look

RSG Skid Plates

Skid Plates

Underbody armor is your insurance policy against Colorado granite.
RSG Skid Plates cover the most vulnerable components—front differential, transmission, and fuel tank.

  • CNC-cut aluminum or steel

  • Venting for cooling and debris clearance

  • Easy service access for oil changes

RSG Suspension

Suspension Systems

We work with premium brands like ICON Vehicle Dynamics, King, and Bilstein—and fine-tune every setup for the Colorado backcountry.

  • Coilover lifts for articulation and ride quality

  • Upper control arms for alignment correction

  • Rear spring options based on payload or overland setups

RSG Light Mounts

Lighting and Power

When the sun dips behind the peaks, you’ll appreciate well-designed lighting.

  • Spot and flood combinations for long-range and crawl lighting

  • Scene lights for camp or recovery work

  • Custom switch panels for clean power control

Mounted cleanly with our roof racks or bumpers, every wire is loomed, labeled, and protected from weather.

RSG Recovery Gear

Recovery and Utility Gear

Every RSG build includes recovery-ready mounting points and optional winch integration.

  • Welded recovery tabs

  • Rear swing-outs for spare and fuel

  • Compressor mounts and MOLLE panels

Because Colorado trails have a way of testing your preparation.

Colorado-Tuned, Trail-Tested

What makes an RSG build truly unique is where we test. Our backyard includes:

  • Black Bear Pass – One of Colorado’s most infamous switchbacks

  • Alpine Loop – 65 miles of scenic high-alpine terrain

  • Moody Hill & Crystal Mountain – Rock-crawling near Fort Collins

  • Red Cone Pass – A true test of traction and descent control

We don’t build trucks in a showroom—we build them in the dirt, snow, and granite that define the Rockies.

Community Built, Locally Driven

RSG Offroad isn’t just a shop—it’s a community hub for Colorado’s off-road culture.
We partner with trail organizations like Stay the Trail, and collaborate with local enthusiasts on recovery runs and charity builds.

When you roll into our shop, you’re joining a crew of builders, not just buyers.

Customer Spotlight: A 5th Gen 4Runner Built the RSG Way

One of our recent builds started as a bone-stock 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road.
The owner wanted a capable daily driver that could also handle multi-day overland trips across Colorado and Utah.

The Build Included:

  • RSG Bolt-On Sliders

  • Full Skid Package

  • ICON Stage 2 Suspension

  • Baja Designs Lighting Kit

  • Roof Rack + MOLLE Panels

  • Dual Battery System

After final tuning, we took it out on Engineer Pass—and the difference was night and day. The truck’s stance, articulation, and visibility were perfectly balanced for both highway and trail performance.

That’s the RSG way—no wasted parts, no unnecessary upgrades, just capability and craftsmanship.

Sustainability and Responsibility on the Trail

We take “built, not bought” to heart—but also “leave it better than you found it.”
RSG promotes responsible recreation and trail stewardship across Colorado.
Our team participates in cleanup events, donates to trail-access groups, and educates new off-roaders about Tread Lightly principles.

Your build should empower you to explore—not destroy—the backcountry.
